Education & TechnologyOur comprehensive education program focuses on homework help, tutoring, college preparation, career exploration, and enrichment activities. With access to two computer labs, our members can complete assignments, conduct research and explore the digital world. While most activities take place in the education center and technology lab, learning is stressed throughout the Club. Homework HelpHomework assistance and tutoring is available every day. Volunteers and staff are here to help each member to realize their full academic potential. TechnologyWith two state-of-the-art computer labs, activities in Podcasting, digital art & music and website design, our technology program prepares members to succeed in the digital world. Test PreparationClub staff and volunteers prepare members for success on the MCAS, ISSEE, PSAT, and SAT exams. Preparation is tailored to individual learning styles with large group, small group and one-on-one learning sessions available. Educational EnrichmentWhile education activities take place primarily in the Education Centers, learning takes place throughout the Club. Members learn chemistry and math in cooking classes, practice problem solving in the gym, develop critical thinking in the Music Clubhouse and much more! Strong StartsWhether members are looking for the right college or the right career, Club staff are here to help. Assistance with applications, financial aid forms, career exploration, along with college and career related field trips ensure that members make a strong start as independent adults. College PreparationAt the West End House, we offer year round classes to prepare our members for the ISEE (Boston’s Exam School entry requirement) the MCAS, the SAT. We take our high school members on college tours, teach them to write strong college applications and help them to secure financial aid. In addition to college tours, members also attend college fairs with West End House staff. Career ExplorationOur staff prepares teens for the future by helping them to prepare effective resumes and conduct effective job searches. Club members can do job shadowing and take job tours and through our volunteer program, professionals come visit the Club to engage members in career workshops. Staff work with members to hone their interview skills and teach them the job readiness skills they need to secure and retain a part-time position while their in school or a full-time position that will start their career. |
